The SMART Board™ Spark
for all grade levels

SMART Board interactive whiteboards have become increasingly popular in K-12 classrooms, allowing educators to weave Internet, audio, video, and software resources into class discussions. What sets these whiteboards apart is their power to integrate the use of many different technologies across the curriculum. Rather than just projecting the computer’s screen, a SMART Board™ allows the teacher to manipulate data by touching the board instead of using the mouse at the computer. The benefits are only limited by the creativity of the instructor. Ignite enthusiasm in your classroom by considering the use of SMART boards to enhance technology rich lessons.  Imagine what you could do if you were to:

  • Use pre-made templates and interactive lesson activities through the SMART board software. Through the Notebook software, you can make your own interactive lessons. The Notebook houses a gallery, with images, graphics, and multi-media activities, broken down by subject area. For example, in science, you’ll find a set of lessons about leaf structure.
  • Make the most of graphic organizers such as Inspiration and Kidspiration by using them to do whole-class brainstorming and pre-writing. The ready-made templates in these programs would also lend themselves to SMARTboard applications
  • Use streaming video to spark writing across many curricular areas. Try Discovery Education's United Streaming for thousands of educational videos, searching by subject or grade relevance.  This site also features a writing prompt builder, which allows you to combine a video segment or image with a prompt of your own design.
  • Take advantage of interactive web resources to give students new experiences, and to build teamwork and communication skills. Try Global Classroom, Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT), or ReadWriteThink.
  • Realize the simple power of the word processor to teach editing and revising as a whole group.
