Quill pens just don’t cut it any more for our young tech-savvy
poets. Motivate your poets by infusing various technologies along
the writing journey:
- Expose your students to many different types of poetry.
Beyond books, you can find a great quantity of poems on
the Internet:
- Your students can listen to famous poets reading their work.
- Experience various poetry forms by spending time at:
- Practice with different poetry forms using online poetry
generators. Online poetry generators for acrostics, diamantes,
idioms, and shape poems are available at:
- Use a word processor as a poetry journal, for students to
cut and paste ideas and phrases from their Internet experiences.
Then, give students time to compose several different
poems.

Completed poetry may be celebrated by publishing via
technology tools such as:
- Kid Pix - use drawing tools to illustrate
- PowerPoint (or other presentation software) - visually
enhance poetry with slideshows
- Microsoft Word (or other word processing package) - add
borders and clipart to dress up the printed page
- The Web - encourage students to enter online contests
