Vote for Larry
Vote for Larry*
by Janet Tashjian
Vote for Larry is a witty, spirited examination of American political life and the role that young people can play. Students are sure to be engaged by Larry’s rebellious streak, as well as the abounding references to popular culture. Certainly, this novel could serve as a starting point for a semester-long project. Tashjian suggests that this novel “…leads to discussions of the electoral college, how old a person should be to run for President, the importance of one vote, the democratic process, as well as recent Presidential elections” (janettashjian.com).

Additional Resources:

Activity ideas:
  • Create action plans for specific community issues.
  • Organize a mock debate.
  • Create a commercial for Larry’s Green Party.
  • Write one of Larry’s platform speeches.
  • Get involved with the upcoming elections.
