Literature Links for Secondary
In Code
Seedfolks
by Paul Fleischman (HarperCollins Publishers, Inc., 1997)
This short, young adult novel weaves together the stories of thirteen different characters from all walks of life as they transform an empty, urban space into a vibrant community garden. The reading level is accessible to ESL students at English Language Proficiency level 3. The plot is captivating. Students are sure to find parallels to their own lives in this story. And, to top it off, Seedfolks certainly lends itself to becoming the basis of a Project Based Learning (PBL) project.
