Literature Links for Primary 6+1 Traits®: Presentation
Cassie’s Word Quilt
by Faith Ringold (Dragonfly, 2004)
Cassie’s world is shown with the use of pictures and labels in a quilt form.
Students, using either paper and crayons or a drawing computer program such as Kid Pix™, design a quilt about themselves. Start with a grid of nine to twenty squares and write/type their name in the middle square. In the additional squares they can type/insert words, pictures, colors that tell about themselves. For an extension activity students might write sentences or paragraphs using the words from their quilts.
This activity is based on 6+1 Traits® for developing word choice. 6+1 Traits® is a registered name by the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory. For more information, visit: their web site .
