6+1 Traits®: Sentence Fluency
Don’t Take Your Snake for a Stroll
by Karin Ireland (Harcourt, 2003)
Learn why a boy is told not to take his pets to various places. After reading this book to the class, students brainstorm additional animals and places to which animals should not be taken. Small groups of students select an animal and a place and write an additional page to the story. Later, pictures can be drawn to go with the additional pages. Students help each other make the story flow as the original did.
