The Mission of Addition written by Brian P. Cleary: A catlike cast of characters use playful rhymes to explain basic concepts students need to know when working with addition.

Activity Idea: In large or small groups, assist students in writing ADD-ons (sequels) to the book casting their classmates as the characters in their rhymes. Using a large piece of paper, chalkboard or interactive whiteboard, direct grouping of students together in various amounts then use their names and actions to add additional rhymes to the story. Older students can attempt this individually. Dositey.com website has some great interactive addition games for all levels of learners, K-8.
