Just Like Home/Como En Mi Tierra
Just Like Home/Como En Mi Tierra*
written by Elizabeth I. Miller
This story of a family’s move to another country examines the differences they find and the simple challenges they face. They learn from their new experiences and settle in to make it their home. This is a story that will touch anyone making a change in his / her life.

Activity Idea
Have students think about where they live now and another place where they may have lived or visited (a relative’s or a friend’s home, a vacation). Ask students to compare and contrast the two places using graphic organizers. Have students write a paragraph about each place using their graphic organizers. Younger students can draw a picture of the differences.

Additional books to read:
  • Wonderful Houses Around the World by Akira Nishiyama (Shelter Publications, 2004)
  • Houses and Homes by Ann Morris (HarperTrophy, 1995)

* published by Albert Whitman & Co., 1999
