A little boy listens to the sounds that he hears during the night while he is trying to sleep. Wolff uses rhythm and rhyme as the boy’s imagination tries to determine what is making the sounds he hears.
Activity Idea:
As a class or individually, students will write a short poem about other things that the sound of the wind blowing sounds like or sounds they hear at night.
Some suggested poem formats are: Lantern Poem, Parts of Speech Poem or Acrostic Poem.
