Literature Links for Primary
I Pledge Allegiance
I Pledge Allegiance*
written by Bill Martin Jr.
This book is designed for younger students and offers a great use of pictures and descriptions to explain what the words of the Pledge of Allegiance mean. The author also provides simple background information about the pledge.

Activity Idea: Students will make a paper quilt about the Pledge of Allegiance to hang. Using paper and markers/crayons or a drawing computer program like Kid Pix™ students will pick out a word from a list of important words from the pledge compiled by the teacher. They will write or type the word at the top and illustrate it in their own way. In the middle of the quilt can be a copy of the Pledge of Allegiance typed out. Good bulletin board display.
