It’s OK to Be Different

It’s OK to Be Different written by Todd Parr: Parr’s simple wording and images make it easy to understand how we are different from each other and that differences are OK and need to be respected. This book provides students with an amusing look at concerns that are important to them.

Activity Idea:
An "I am Special" booklet can be developed by students with a drawing/writing program such as Kid Pix™ or Pixie®, at the Read, Write, Think’s website or with paper and crayons. Students will write about their unique characteristics, then illustrate their work. Offer students a prompt such as, "I am special, because ____."
