Invented by Jeremy Anderson, this acronym was invented to help people remember the components of a map:
T = Title: describes the area shown on the map
O = Orientation: such as where are north, south, east, west
D = Date: map was created
A = Author: who created this map
L = Legend: or key describing what the symbols on the map mean
S = Scale: distance for unit of measurement
I = Index: tells the map address or location
G = Grid: series of lines on the map that match the index
S = Source: where the map maker found the information about the map
