February 1: The First Meeting of the Supreme Court

The first meeting of the Supreme Court was held in 1790. However, it was not until 1803 under John Marshall that the Supreme Court established its power to interpret the U.S. Constitution and to determine the constitutionality of laws passed by congress and the state legislatures.

The Supreme Court has only had sixteen Justices in its whole history. Consider the long-term effects on our nation that each justice has had.

Use the Internet to discover who our Supreme Court Justices are and what cases they are working on. Which case catches your attention and why? How will a decision either way in this case affect our nation?
